Why go

Khun Si sits deep in the middle of the island, at the end of a rough track and a short scramble, and you will usually have it entirely to yourself. It is the one waterfall on Samui that still feels like a find.

What you will find

The fall drops into a clear pool ringed by boulders, with jungle closing over the top. There are no stalls, no signs and no railings. Worth doing only after rain — outside the wet months there is not enough water to justify the trip.

Good to know

Only worth it after rain, and only with a driver who knows the track.

Worth knowing before you go

The track needs a pick-up or a driver who knows it, and the last stretch is a walk on loose rock. Not a rented-scooter destination.

Phra Buddha Teepangkorn

The huge white seated Buddha you can see from half the island, up in the hills at the centre. The platform around it is one of the widest views on Samui.

Bangkok Hospital Samui

The island's main private hospital, English-speaking and used to travel insurance, between Chaweng and the ring road.

Samui Elephant Sanctuary, Bophut

Rescued elephants living out their retirement in the hills above Bophut. Observation and feeding only — no riding, no bathing, no shows.
