Thong Krut is the southern jumping-off point for Koh Tan and Koh Madsum: a jetty, a fresh market, and half a dozen seafood restaurants built out over the water. It is the least touristy meal on Samui with a sea view.
Longtails leave from the jetty in the morning for the two islands and the snorkelling in between. On land, the market sells the morning catch and the restaurants cook it — whole fish, crab, squid — at prices the beaches do not know.
Boats leave in the morning; the sea in the strait gets choppy after 2 p.m.
Boat crossings get choppy after about two in the afternoon; take the morning departure and eat afterwards.
