The north-west coast: shallow, glassy water and a row of seafood shacks built out over it. Very few hotels, very little noise.
Bang Por is where islanders go to eat fish. The bay is shallow and glassy, and a row of open-sided restaurants is built out over the water on stilts — the best value seafood on Samui, at a table with the sea underneath it.
The beach itself is quiet, with a handful of small hotels and no beach service at all. Swimming works at high tide; at low tide the flats stretch out and the water is knee-deep for a hundred metres. It sits on the north-west coast, which means the sun sets over the sea rather than behind a hill.
Come for lunch — the whole grilled fish here is the island's best value.
