The tour in a nutshell
The island eats on two clocks. In the morning it is the fish markets — Hua Thanon, Bang Rak, Thong Krut — sold and grilled on the sand before nine. In the evening, one village at a time closes its street: Bophut on Friday, Lamai on Sunday, Maenam on Thursday, and the Chaweng stalls most other nights.
This evening takes whichever market falls on your night, and walks it properly. Not a restaurant with a set menu — a slow lap of the stalls with someone who knows which one has done grilled pork for eleven years, what the green sauce is, and which fruit is worth the queue.
Around ten things to taste, from som tam pounded in front of you to roti folded with condensed milk at the end. You will eat standing up, and you will not need dinner afterwards.

💡 Good to know
📅 The night decides the market: Friday is Bophut, Sunday is Lamai, Thursday is Maenam. On other nights we do the Chaweng stalls, which are livelier and more touristy — tell us which evening you have and we will tell you what you get.
🌶️ Heat: say « not spicy » at the start and we will order accordingly. Thai « a little spicy » is not the same measurement as yours.
🥗 Vegetarian: possible at every market and easier than people expect — ask when you book so we can plan the stalls rather than improvise.
🚗 Parking: Friday in Bophut is the worst parking of the week. Being driven is half the reason this evening is easier than doing it yourself.
💧 Street food and stomachs: we use stalls with turnover, cooked to order, and no pre-cut fruit sitting in the heat. That is most of what keeps an evening like this uneventful.

Which night should we come?
Friday for Bophut if you want the prettiest street — the shophouses of Fisherman's Village with the sea at the end. Sunday for Lamai if you want the most local one and the cheapest food. Thursday for Maenam, which is tiny and almost entirely Thai. Any other night, the Chaweng stalls, which are louder and more touristy.
Is there enough food to count as dinner?
Yes. Around ten tastings across three hours is a full evening meal — people regularly ask us to slow down before the roti.
Can you do this if I do not eat meat?
Yes. Tell us when you book: the fruit, the noodles, the coconut sweets and several of the curries are naturally vegetarian, and we will plan the stops rather than improvise them in front of you.
Is street food safe here?
Cooked to order, from stalls with high turnover, it is the food most of the island eats every day. We avoid pre-cut fruit left out and anything sitting warm, which is where problems come from.
Can we stay at the market afterwards?
Of course — tell the guide and we will leave you there. Bophut and Lamai both have bars that go on well after the stalls pack up.
